What NAD+ is
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell, essential for converting food into energy and for DNA repair. Its levels fall with age, which has made restoring it a major focus of longevity research. It is given orally as precursors (NR, NMN) and intravenously in clinics.

How NAD+ works
NAD+ is a required cofactor for the mitochondrial reactions that produce ATP, and for sirtuins and PARPs — enzymes involved in DNA repair and metabolic regulation. Raising NAD+ in animals improved mitochondrial function and healthspan markers. Human trials confirm precursors raise NAD+ levels, but clinical anti-aging outcomes are unproven.

A worked example
A 500 mg vial reconstituted with 5 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 100 mg/mL. A 500000 mcg dose is then 5 mL — about 500 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 1 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.

Is NAD+ a peptide?
No. NAD+ is a coenzyme (a nucleotide), not a chain of amino acids. It appears on peptide supplier lists but is chemically distinct.
Does NAD+ supplementation slow aging?
NAD+ levels decline with age, and raising them improved healthspan markers in animals. Human trials of NAD precursors show they raise NAD+ levels, but whether that translates into meaningful anti-aging benefit is not yet established.
