Epithalon calculator
A tetrapeptide studied for effects on telomerase and aging markers. Popular in longevity circles, but human evidence is limited and mostly regional.
Also known as: Epitalon, Epithalone, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly tetrapeptide
FDA status — not an approved drug Not FDA-approved for any use. Epithalon is a research peptide and is not reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.

What Epithalon is
Epithalon (epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide based on a natural pineal-gland peptide. It is one of the most-discussed longevity peptides because of studies suggesting it activates telomerase. The evidence is mostly animal, in-vitro, and small regional human studies; large rigorous trials are lacking.
Research depth: 2/5 Interesting telomerase and animal data plus small regional human studies; no large rigorous trials. Human trials: Small regional studies. This measures how much has been studied — counting animal and laboratory work — not whether it works for you.
How Epithalon works
In cell and animal models, epithalon activated telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds telomeres — the protective caps on chromosomes that shorten with age. It also appeared to influence melatonin production and circadian regulation. Whether these effects translate into slowed aging or extended healthspan in humans is not established.
Epithalon side effects
Commonly reported
- Injection-site reactions
- No systematic long-term human safety data
- Reported effects are largely anecdotal in Western use
Serious — seek medical care
- Unknown long-term safety; activating telomerase is a theoretical concern because cancer cells use telomerase
- Evidence for anti-aging benefit is not established
- Unregulated products carry purity and sterility risks
This list is not exhaustive. Report anything unexpected to the clinician who prescribed it. If you have severe abdominal pain, trouble breathing, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek care the same day. See also our guide to peptide side effects by class.
A worked example
A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg/mL. A 10000 mcg dose is then 2 mL — about 200 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 1 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.

Commonly cited dose range
Figures circulating for Epithalon run from 5000 mcg to 20000 mcg. Figures circulating in community protocols, often described as short courses. There is no established human dose and no approved labeling.

Common questions
Does epithalon extend lifespan?
Animal and in-vitro studies showed effects on telomerase and some aging markers, and a few small regional human studies reported benefits, but there are no large, rigorous human trials demonstrating lifespan or healthspan extension.
What does epithalon do to telomeres?
In cell and animal studies it activated telomerase, the enzyme that maintains telomere length. Whether this produces meaningful anti-aging effects in humans is unproven.
