How Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide works
It binds VIP receptors (VPAC1 and VPAC2) throughout the body, relaxing smooth muscle to dilate blood vessels and airways and modulating immune-cell activity to reduce inflammation. These combined vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects are the basis for its study in cardiopulmonary and inflammatory conditions.

A worked example
A 1 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 0.5 mg/mL. A 100 mcg dose is then 0.2 mL — about 20 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 10 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.
