What Oxytocin is
Oxytocin is a peptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus, best known for driving labor contractions and milk release. It is an FDA-approved prescription drug for labor induction and postpartum bleeding. It is also studied for social bonding and trust, though that evidence is inconsistent.

How Oxytocin works
For its approved uses, it binds oxytocin receptors on the uterus to stimulate contractions and on breast tissue to trigger milk ejection. Centrally, it modulates social behavior, trust, and pair bonding in animal and human studies, though translating this into reliable clinical effects has proven difficult.

A worked example
A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg/mL. A 2000 mcg dose is then 0.4 mL — about 40 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 5 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.
