What Survodutide is
Survodutide is an investigational dual agonist of the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, developed for obesity and for MASH, a form of fatty liver disease. Phase 2 results showed significant weight loss and improvement in liver fat.
Research depth: 4/5 Published phase 2 human results in obesity and MASH; not yet approved. Human trials: Phase 2 complete, phase 3 ongoing. This measures how much has been studied — counting animal and laboratory work — not whether it works for you.
How Survodutide works
GLP-1 receptor activation reduces appetite and food intake, while glucagon receptor activation increases energy expenditure and promotes the breakdown of fat in the liver. The dual action is why it is being studied specifically for liver disease as well as weight.
Survodutide side effects
Commonly reported
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Increased heart rate
Serious — seek medical care
- Gastrointestinal effects typical of the class
- Heart-rate elevation from glucagon activity
- Long-term safety not yet established
This list is not exhaustive. Report anything unexpected to the clinician who prescribed it. If you have severe abdominal pain, trouble breathing, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek care the same day. See also our guide to peptide side effects by class.
A worked example
A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg/mL. A 4800 mcg dose is then 0.96 mL — about 96 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 2 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.

Common questions
Is survodutide approved?
No. Survodutide is investigational and has not been approved by the FDA for any indication.
What is survodutide studied for?
Obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The glucagon activity is thought to drive liver fat reduction in addition to weight loss.
