A worked example

A 100 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 50 mg/mL. A 400 mcg dose is then 0.008 mL — about 0.8 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 250 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.

Common questions

Is botulinum toxin a peptide I can use at home?

No. Botulinum toxin is a prescription neurotoxin administered only by licensed clinicians in a medical setting. It is the most potent toxin known and is never a self-administered product.

How does botulinum toxin work?

It blocks the release of acetylcholine at the nerve-muscle junction, temporarily paralyzing the targeted muscle. This relaxes wrinkles or treats muscle overactivity, with effects lasting months.
