What Botulinum Toxin is
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In controlled, minute doses it is an FDA-approved prescription drug (Botox and related products) used cosmetically to relax wrinkles and medically for conditions like chronic migraine, muscle spasticity, and overactive bladder. It is administered only by licensed clinicians.

How Botulinum Toxin works
It enters nerve endings and cleaves the proteins needed to release acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that triggers muscle contraction. A worked example
A 100 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 50 mg/mL. A 400 mcg dose is then 0.008 mL — about 0.8 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe, giving roughly 250 doses per vial before accounting for residual volume left in the vial and syringe.
